Facilitation skills
Facilitation skills are becoming essential to every sector, whether you are a project manager, a team leader, an instructor, or are looking for ways to increase engagement in any setting. Learn how to design your own on-site or online sessions. I share techniques to lead and create processes for groups to explore and apply their knowledge and insights to a challenge, and collaborate to discover and implement new ideas.
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who manages projects that require multiple perspectives and shared knowledge for their long-lasting success or leads meetings and teams. -
Visual thinking
Learn how to bring visual thinking into your work. Whether you use it to collaborate with others or in your individual projects, visual thinking will help you explain abstract concepts, map out processes, and organize ideas graphically. This workshop will teach you how and why visual thinking works and techniques you can use to bring it to life.
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who communicates ideas to other people or is interested in a different way to capture ideas. -
Trauma-informed facilitation
No matter who your audience is, there will be people in your room with experiences of trauma. I have spent two decades designing and delivering community-based education to groups who have experienced trauma including being stigmatized and marginalized by systemic inequities. They often have had very negative education experiences that limit their ability to be open to trusting and learning in a group setting. In this session I share my approach to heart-centred trauma-informed facilitation to create safer containers where participants can be their genuine selves and learn in positive, caring ways.
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who is concerned about designing and delivering truly inclusive sessions. -
Liberating Structures
Liberate the knowledge in the room by adding Liberating Structures to your toolkit. Liberating Structures are a set of collaborative and participatory activities that you can bring into any session or meeting. They effectively disrupt traditional meeting processes and unleash the innovation and creativity of people in the room. Join the growing community of people using this toolkit to create meetings people want to attend!
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who is interested in adding new tools to their facilitation and instructional toolkit. -
Online Engagement and Collaboration
Learn how to bring your online facilitation skills to life. This session will strengthen your ability to engage any number of participants in any online session. We will also look at online collaboration tools such as Mural, Google Slides, Jamboard and PowerPoint 365, which can be used to enhance learning, increase participation, and capture participants’ ideas. No more boring online meetings!
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone with team members, partners or clients who work at a distance. -
Project Management 101 for Non-Profits
Working in the non-profit sectors often means project deliverables, tight timelines, limited resources all while creating positive social change. As non-profit workers we wear numerous hats within an organization including becoming Project Managers responsible of complex projects. Using specific tools and techniques, Project Management creates the process for the successful accomplishment of goals and meeting project deliverables within the set timeline. This Online workshop will provide and introduction to key Project Management concepts and an opportunity to apply it to existing projects. We will explore the lifespan of a project, from project launch, implementation to conclusion.
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who is coordinating small to medium sized projects in the non-profit sector.

Cultivating Safe Spaces
This workshop is based on the work by Elaine Alec and helps people to understand what decolonizing looks like in practice when working with teams and groups. Cultivating Safe Spaces gives you the tools to support meaningful relationships and conversations, deepening understanding so people can communicate and contribute effectively and actively. The workshop provides participants with the 4 necessary conditions and 4 protocols required to cultivate safe spaces to promote diversity and inclusion in planning, program delivery, group processes, facilitation and much more.
Who benefits from having these skills? Anyone who is interested in learning and deepening their understanding of a decolonized approach to working with others. This will be particularly useful for anyone leading groups or teams, but can also be integrated into our personal individual work.
"When I walked into Susana’s class, I was a little unsure about sharing my drawings with other people, but by the time I walked out I couldn’t wait to share it with my students and colleagues! Thanks Susana!"
